Should I choose work over travel? or travel over work?

This is probably the most common questions online workers (or even regular employees) asked themselves. There is nothing wrong with trying to break free from your daily desk task and contemplate about wandering along the seashore of Boracay. If you are struggling with a staggering feeling of wanderlust, like me, working may seem like a waste of time for a certain period of your life.

But is it? Can I have both?

I made the decision 4 year ago to quit my 8-hour day job and move to online freelancing. It was not a simple decision, but I am so thankful that I did it.

WORKING WHILE TRAVELING IS NOT AN EASY TASK (SOMETIMES)

Which is true. People usually associate online workers with a full-time job that lets you work from home on a regular basis.

Let’s lay out several criteria that make more sense regarding jobs for people who need to work but also need to unwind. Those jobs usually need to be:

done on the internet
done over a short period of time during your travels
done without restriction of time

This dream is becoming a reality for most people, as the web enables us to work from home or anywhere, and has elevated our knowledge of job opportunities abroad through outsourcing.

Whether you have qualifications on jobs in legal work, web design,  illustration, programming, marketing, writing, consulting,  engineering or capable of any sort of admin work, you must check out freelance sites such as Freelancer, Fiverr and Odesk. These are online sites that can connect freelancers to individuals and companies who need work done (through outsourcing). Even if your background are not within those mentioned above, take a peek anyway as there are a lot of freelance work to be found in a lot of different fields online.

HERE ARE OTHER JOBS THAT CAN LET YOU WORK AND TRAVEL

1. Yacht Crew

2. Teaching Overseas

3. Cruise Ship Crew

4. Peace Corps

5. Overseas Volunteer

6. Work at a Resort

In reality, not all of these choices will work for everyone – it might sometimes require degrees. Some of these jobs would only moderately fund your needs or give you a small income stream.

We (Melissa and Presto) do hope that our blog has helped you realize that you can still travel and work. Earning money while on vacation is not as impossible as everyone thought. If work while on vacation is impossible, there certainly wouldn’t be so many people, from different countries traveling and working as they discover places within the country or abroad.

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

Who said vacation is not synonymous with working!  Safe Travel Everyone!
